Two Jumbos receive ECAC hockey honors

Despite a disappointing overtime loss on Wednesday night in the ECAC tournament semi-finals, the hockey team received a bit of good news on Thursday: two of its players were named to the ECAC Northeast Division First Team. Senior captain Drew Carleton and junior defenseman Dan Mahoney received the prestigious First Team honor based on a vote of the league’s 14 coaches.

Carleton, whose Tufts career ended with Wednesday’s loss, led the Jumbos on the season with 28 goals and 41 points overall. He netted goals in nine consecutive games to end the year, and also led the league in game-winning goals with six. For his Jumbo career, Carleton totaled 84 goals and 64 assists, averaging about two points a game in 74 contests. He has been named to the team three times.

“I’m really going to miss just getting out there on the ice and playing for a team,” Carleton said. “I’ll play again, pickup or adult hockey, but its been a daily event and now it will be once a week at most.”

Mahoney, who will be back for one more season with the Jumbos, was the leader of an impressive Tufts defense, while also contributing five goals and 14 assists on the season.
