CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Senior captain Drew Carleton (Shaker Heights, OH) knocked in a rebound from the right post with 1:39 left in the third period to earn a 3-3 tie for the Tufts Jumbos against the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth Corsairs in ECAC Northeast Division college hockey action on Saturday night.

Visiting UMass-Dartmouth skated to a 2-0 lead in the first nine minutes of play on goals by senior Jim Egan (Billerica, MA) and freshman Matt Cruikshank (Townshend, MA). Junior Natan Obed (Goose Bay, NFLD) scored off a nice feed from Carleton on the powerplay to pull the Jumbos within 2-1 at the end of the first period.

Tufts tied the game at 3:22 of the second when sophomore Jordan Karp (Roslyn Heights, NY) gloved the puck, dropped it and put it past UMD senior goalie Louis Weimann (Burlington, VT). The Corsairs reclaimed the lead when leading scorer Tom Brown (Framingham, MA) beat Tufts junior goalie Ian Kell (St. Paul, MN) with a fine slap shot from the right circle.

Tufts had a questionable goal taken away early in the third period. In overtime, both teams put four shots on net and Kell was forced to make a few saves on point-blank shots.

The point helps both teams stay alive in the battle for home ice in the playoffs. The Jumbos are tied for second with Wentworth at 17 points, one point behind first-place Fitchburg. UMass-Dartmouth moved into sole possession of fifth place with 12 points.
