FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- Senior captain Drew Carleton (Shaker Heights, OH) scored two powerplay goals as the Tufts University hockey team stopped a three-game losing streak with a 3-0 victory at Framingham State College in ECAC Northeast Division hockey action on Thursday night.

The victory kept Tufts in the thick of the race for first place in the Northeast. The Jumbos improved to 8-2 in the league (10-7 overall), currently tying them for second place with Fitchburg State at 16 points. First-place Wentworth is just one point higher at 17. The Tufts defense allowed just 14 Framingham shots, and sophomore goalie Ian Kell (St. Paul, MN) stopped all of them for his second shutout of the season.

Despite their advantage in shots, Tufts was up just 1-0 entering the third period. Carleton had scored his first at 10:11 of the first period. It remained a one-goal game until Carleton connected again with just 3:44 left in the third period, his 17th of the year. With the Framingham goalie pulled for an extra man, freshman Rob LaQuaglia (Medford, MA) scored into an empty net at 19:09 with one of the assists going to Kell.

LaQuaglia and junior Natan Obed (Goose Bay, NFLD) returned to the ice for Tufts after missing games with injuries. That gives the team a boost as it heads down the stretch. They play their final "home" game of the season versus UMass-Dartmouth at Boston College on Saturday (Feb. 12) at 8 pm.
