BOSTON, Mass. -- Joe Campanale scored 4:13 into overtime to lift the UMass-Boston Beacons to a 4-3 victory over the Tufts Jumbos in ECAC non-league hockey action on Tuesday night. The loss was the third in four days for the Jumbos.

Tufts, underdogs to the UMass-Boston of the ECAC's East Division, skated to a 2-0 lead behind red-hot senior Scott Sullivan (Tewksbury, MA). His powerplay goal gave the Jumbos a 1-0 lead after the first period, then he added his 15th goal of the season early in the second for a 2-0 Tufts margin.

Host UMass-Boston scored the next three goals: Matt Anthony and Derek Trainor to make it 2-2 after two periods, and the go-ahead score by Tom Leyne at 4:58 of the third period. Tufts, coming off disappointing losses to Fitchburg State on Saturday and Worcester State on Monday, didn't pack it in. Senior captain Drew Carleton (Shaker Heights, OH) scored unassisted with 1:58 left in regulation to send the game to overtime.

Tufts (9-7) again had more opportunities than their opponent, out-shooting the favored Beacons (10-9) 39-24. Junior Alex Scerbo (Hingham, MA) made his second start of the season in goal for the Jumbos and stopped 20 shots. Jason Gardner stopped 36 shots for UMB.

Tufts is in the midst of an insanely busy stretch. After playing last night, a make-up on Monday night and Saturday night, head coach Brian Murphy's troupe now plays at Framingham State on Thursday night (Feb. 10) and hosts UMass-Dartmouth at Boston College on Saturday (Feb. 12). That's five games in eight days.
