MEDFORD, Mass. -- Visiting Worcester State scored twice within 11 seconds early in the second period and went on to upset Tufts University, 3-2, in ECAC Northeast Division hockey action on Monday night. The game was the make-up of a contest originally scheduled for January 25.

Worcester leading scorer Chris Susi (Marshfield, MA) scored 57 seconds into the second period to break a 1-1 tie, then junior teammate Mark Hill (Townshend, MA) made it 3-1 at 1:07 with an unassisted goal. That was enough for 11th place Worcester (7-9-1, 3-5-1) to hold off Tufts (9-6, 7-2), which had won its first seven league games before losing to Fitchburg State on Saturday.

The host Jumbos controlled play for most of the game, finishing with a 32-15 advantage in shots and a 7-2 margin in powerplay opportunities. They had trouble putting the puck past Worcester freshman goalie Paul Sundeen (Shrewsbury, MA), who finished with 30 saves to earn his second straight victory.

On a powerplay with the goaltender pulled for another extra man, Tufts junior Justin Picone (Ellington, CT) scored on a slap shot that pulled the Jumbos within 3-2 with 33 seconds left in the third period. Tufts threatened in the closing seconds, but could not score the equalizer.

Worcester's Mike Bardsley (Burlington, MA) and Tufts' Scott Sullivan (Tewksbury, MA) traded powerplay goals to make the score 1-1 after the first period.
