SPRINGFIELD, Mass.. -- Freshman Rob LaQuaglia (Medford, MA) continued his stellar freshman season by potting two goals to help the Tufts hockey team beat Western New England College on the road, 6-2, Saturday night. The win lifted head coach Brian Murphy's Jumbos to 4-0 in the ECAC's Northeast Division.

Tufts scored the first five goals and posted a 41-23 advantage in shots for the game. LaQuaglia got it rolling with his seventh of the season for the only goal of the first period. Tufts then added four straight scores in the second period to lead 5-0 on a goal by junior Scott Hayes (Medfield, MA) with 4:29 remaining in the middle frame. That came just six seconds after LaQuaglia's second of the game, which followed sophomore Jordan Karp's (Roslyn Heights, NY) first of the season and junior defenseman Dan Mahoney's (Tewksbury, MA) strike earlier in the period.

Host Western New England pulled to within 5-2 on powerplay goals late in the second and early in the third, but Tufts senior Scott Sullivan (Tewksbury, MA) capped a three-point night with a goal at 17:04 of the third for the Jumbos. Sophomore Ian Kell (St. Paul, MN) stopped 21 shots for the victory in net.

The Jumbos take on New England Small College Athletic Conference foe Connecticut College in non-league action on Tuesday night.
