MIDDLETOWN, CONN. -- The Tufts hockey team resumed its season with a four-game winning streak, but it ended with a 7-4 loss at Wesleyan on Tuesday night. The Jumbos led once, were tied twice and trailed just 5-4 until stalling late in the third. The loss dropped Tufts to 5-3 overall heading into Thursday's game at Assumption.

Junior Scott Hayes (Medfield, MA) gave Tufts a 1-0 lead 4:35 into the first with his second goal of the year. Wesleyan's Kevin Hardy scored the next two goals just 21 seconds apart later in the period, and the Jumbos had to play catch-up from there. They did a good job of it, tying the game at 2-2 on freshman Mike Carceo's (Belmont, MA) eighth goal at 4:30 of the second and at 3-3 on a goal by senior captain Drew Carleton (Shaker Heights, OH) at 15:37 of the middle frame.

Hardy knotched a hat trick and Steve Cucinatti scored his second goal of the game to give Wes a 5-3 advantage early in the third period, but Tufts answered with Carleton's second of the game and 12th of the season at 8:12. Tufts' inactivity since their last game on December 11 began to show, and the Cardinals capitalized with two goals by Dave Hogan 12 seconds apart with under two minutes left to seal it.

Wesleyan is unbeaten in its last six (5-0-1) after opening the season 0-4-2.
