ARLINGTON -- Freshman Mike Carceo (Belmont, MA) scored a hat trick to lead the Tufts Jumbos to a 5-2 victory over Saint Michael's College in ECAC college hockey action on Wednesday evening. The victory was Tufts's first versus the Ice Knights since 1996 and stopped their six-game losing streak in the series.

Carceo recorded his first two goals on powerplays in the first period as the Jumbos took a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes. Junior Chris Kuthy (Loudonville, NY) had the Saint Michael's score. Senior co-captain Drew Carleton (Shaker Heights, OH) pushed the Tufts lead to 3-1 with his sixth of the year for the only goal of the second period at 12:17. Carceo, who has five goals in his last three games, got the hat trick on a tip-in 4:06 into the third period, then junior Natan Obed (Goose Bay, NFLD) scored on a rebound at 11:31 and the Jumbos led 5-1.

Saint Michael's sophomore Jeremy Coccaro (Newington, CT) kept his squad's hopes alive with his sixth goal at 13:34 of the third, but the Tufts defense preserved the win. Jumbo sophomore goalie Ian Kell (St. Paul, MN) stopped 29 shots, including 12 in the third period for the win. Sophomore Simon Theberge (St. Therese, QUE) had 28 saves at the other end for the Ice Knights. Tufts freshman Rob LaQuaglia (Medford, MA) had four assists in the game.

The loss ended a five-game winning streak for Saint Michael's (5-3), which had scored 57 goals in its previous five games. The Jumbos stopped a two-game slide and evened their record at 2-2.
