WATERVILLE, Me. -- The host Colby College White Mules scored six goals in the first period on their way to a 9-2 victory over the Tufts Jumbos in the first round of the Colby-Bowdoin Thanksgiving Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

After Colby scored on the powerplay for a 1-0 lead at 2:44, Tufts freshman Mike Carceo (Belmont, MA) scored his second of the season to tie the game at 5:28. The remainder of the period was all Colby, as the Mules scored three times within three minutes in the middle of the period and then twice more within 90 seconds later.

Tufts made adjustments and continued to play hard. Junior Natan Obed (Goose Bay, NFLD) scored the first goal of the second period at 4:03, but Colby answered with two of their own to put the game away. Steve Cunningham and Fred Perowne each finished with two goals for the Mules.

Sophomore Ian Kell (St. Paul, MN) was bombarded with 21 shots in the first period. The Jumbos started the second with junior Alex Scerbo (Hingham, MA) in goal and he finished with 10 saves. Jesse Kucenic stopped 16 shots in the Colby goal.

The Jumbos will face Oswego State, a 5-3 loser to Bowdoin in the other first round game, in the consolation game on Sunday.
