ARLINGTON, Mass. -- Senior captain Drew Carleton (Shaker Heights, OH) scored four goals and senior assistant captain Scott Sullivan (Tewksbury, MA) added two goals and two assists as the Tufts Jumbos posted an 8-4 victory over the Suffolk Rams in their 1999-2000 season-opener.

Carleton scored twice and Sullivan added another as the Jumbos skated to a 3-0 lead. The host Rams scored three of the next four goals, though, and the Jumbo lead was only 4-3 at the game's mid-point. Carleton, who scored six goals in a game last season versus Western New England, netted his fourth of the game unassisted on the powerplay at 9:59 to give Tufts a 5-3 margin, but Suffolk stayed close with Evan Crockfield's second goal of the game at 13:42 on the powerplay.

The Jumbos extended their lead to 7-4 with two goals in the final 2 1/2 minutes of the period, including freshman Mike Carceo's (Belmont, MA) first career goal with 1:31 left. Sullivan's second of the game late in the third put it away for the Jumbos. The Jumbos remained unbeaten against Suffolk (10-0-1) since the 1992-93 season. Sophomore Ian Kell (St. Paul, MN) made 23 saves in the Tufts net, while his Suffolk counterparts combined for 47 stops.

The Jumbos will get a good measure of themselves this weekend when they play in the Thanksgiving Tournament at Colby and Bowdoin Colleges in Maine along with Oswego State. Tufts plays at Colby on Saturday night (Nov. 27) at 7 pm.
