CHESTNUT HILL – Sophomore Mike Carceo (Belmont, MA) netted a hat trick as the Tufts University Jumbos posted a 7-4 win over the Framingham State College Rams in ECAC Northeast Division college hockey action on Thursday night.

Carceo’s third goal came while Tufts was scoring three unanswered goals in the third period to make the difference in the game. After Framingham rallied from a 4-1 deficit to tie the score at 4-4 entering the final period, junior Jason Boudrow (Somerville, MA), Carceo and freshman Matt Spang (Winchester, MA) scored unanswered goals to lift the Jumbos. Spang’s goal was the first of his college career. The Jumbos scored two powerplay goals in the period, and three in the game.

Tufts improved to 14-5 overall, the most wins by the team since the 1988-89 season. They improved their ECAC mark to 12-1. Framingham fell to 6-14 and 4-10.

Three times in the game the teams swapped scoring a trio of unanswered goals. Tufts did it early to take a 4-1 lead on Carceo’s second goal just 28 seconds into the second period. Framingham responded with three straight over the remainder of the period to tie the game at 4-4. Sophomore Bill Burke (Braintree, MA), senior Nate Collins (Gloucester, MA) and sophomore Jason Bastien (McMurray, PA) scored to get the Rams back in the game.

Senior Alex Scerbo (Hingham, MA) made his first start of the season in net and had 26 saves for the win. His Framingham counterpart, Anthony Cusumano (Gloucester, MA), stopped 31 shots.
