DUDLEY, Mass. -- The Tufts hockey team closed its first semester of action with a 9-2 victory at Nichols College in ECAC Northeast Division hockey action on Saturday night. The win moved the Jumbos to a perfect 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the league. They have outscored their opponents 51-15 so far.

Tufts stormed to a 3-0 lead after one period on the strength of two goals by sophomore Mike Carceo (Belmont, MA), including the eventual game-winner on the powerplay with 32 seconds left in the first frame. Nichols cut the gap to 3-1 with the first goal of the second period, but Tufts powerplay goals by junior Jason Boudrow (Somerville, MA) and senior tri-captain Dan Mahoney (Tewksbury, MA) put the game firmly in the Jumbos' favor with a 5-1 lead.

The Tufts lead extended to 9-1, with Boudrow and Mahoney each scoring their second goals of the game in the third period. Boudrow's was on the powerplay and Mahoney's was shorthanded. Tufts scored four goals on eight powerplay opportunities during the evening. Freshman Ben Crapser (Paxton, MA) made 18 saves while running his record to a perfect 7-0.

The Jumbos are now off for exams and semester break. They return to action versus Wesleyan University on January 9 at Boston College's Conte Forum.
