BRIDGEWATER, Mass.-- Sophomore Mike Carceo (Belmont, MA) scored a pair of goals and netted four total points as Tufts exploded for eight unanswered goals, including seven in a span of a little more than a period of play, to post an 8-1 ECAC Northeast ice hockey victory over Stonehill Saturday afternoon at the Bridgewater Ice Arena.

The Jumbos (5-0, 3-0 ECAC Northeast) remained unbeaten by using three goals in a 1:21 span of the opening period to overcome an early 1-0 deficit, as sophomore Mike Ryan (Chicopee, MA) gave the host Chieftains (4-5, 3-4 ECAC Northeast) the lead just 1:19 into the contest with his eighth goal of the season. Carceo netted both of his goals in that decisive first period flurry for Tufts, while senior Dan Mahoney (Tewksbury, MA) added the other marker for the visitors. The Jumbos struck four more times in the middle stanza, as seniors Natan Obed (Goose Bay, Newfoundland) and Scott Hayes (Medfield, MA), along with sophomore Rob LaQuaglia (Medford, MA) and freshman Pat Byrne (Burlington, MA), each lit the lamp in the second period. Freshman Timm Schatz' (Mequon, WI) third period power play goal closed out the scoring for Tufts, which collected its second win over Stonehill in a week. The two teams also met in the opening round of last weekend's Stonehill Coca-Cola Classic, as the Jumbos notched a 7-4 triumph in that contest.

Freshman Ben Crapser (Paxton, MA) picked up the win in goal for Tufts, making 21 stops in 47 minutes of action, while senior Alex Scerbo (Hingham, MA) made four saves in the final 13 minutes for the visitors. Sophomore Phil Graves (Pepperell, MA) started in net for Stonehill and made 15 stops in 35 minutes of action, as sophomore David Mitchell (Tewksbury, MA) and freshman Dan Dabrowski (Manlius, N.Y.) combined for 11 saves over the final 25 minutes of play for the hosts.

The Jumbos outshot the Chieftains by a 34-26 margin on the day. Tufts hosts Salve Regina in an ECAC Northeast outing on Wednesday evening at the Valley Forum in Lawrence. The puck drops at 7:30  pm.
