WINOOSKI, Vt. -- Usually the weekday trip to Winooski, Vt., to play at Saint Michael's College has not been kind to the Tufts hockey team. Wednesday was different, though, as the Jumbos made the 3+ hour bus ride, pounded the Ice Knights 7-2, and returned to Medford with a 4-0 record. It was the team's first win at Saint Michael's since early 1995.

Tufts continued to assault its opponents in the first period, scoring four goals in the first frame to take a three-goal lead. The Jumbos scored three times in the final three minutes of the period and now have scored 14 first-period goals in four games. Back-to-back goals by freshman Pat Byrne (Burlington, MA) 30 seconds apart late in the period gave the Jumbos all they would need to beat the Ice Knights. Freshman Ben Crapser (Paxton, MA) was solid again, making 30 saves.

Junior Jason Boudrow (Somerville, MA) figured in six of the seven goals with a goal and a career-high tying five assists. Linemate Natan Obed (Goose Bay, NFLD) had a goal and three assists, while Byrne's two lifted his total to a team-high six goals.

After Obed scored to give Tufts a 1-0 lead early, Saint Michael's tied it at 9:36 on a Chris Kuthy goal. Tufts then got its three late first-period tallies, but the Ice Knights cut the margin to 4-2 on a Jeremy Coccaro goal at 1:09 of the second. Crapser blanked the hosts from there, including making 11 saves in the third period. He now sports a 2.50 goals against average.
