MEDFORD -- Sophomore Mike Carceo (Belmont, MA) scored three goals in the first 24 minutes of play to send the Tufts hockey team on its way to a 7-2 season-opening victory over Suffolk University in ECAC Northeast Division hockey action at Harvard's Bright Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Carceo scored the first two goals of the game, including one shorthanded, to give Tufts (1-0) a quick 2-0 edge. Suffolk (2-2) senior co-captain Evan Crockford (Marshfield, MA) cut the lead in half at 14:21 of the first, but Tufts went on to score the next five goals.

The Jumbos extended the margin to 7-1 with three second-period goals and another early in the third. Junior Jason Boudrow (Somerville, MA) had two goals and two assists for the Jumbos during the five-goal outburst. Senior tri-captain Natan Obed (Goose Bay, NFLD) also had the Jumbos' second shorthanded goal of the game during that stretch.

Freshman Ben Crapser (Paxton, MA) made 25 saves in his collegiate debut to earn the victory for Tufts. Matt Consentino (Dedham, MA) and Mike Sweeney (Randolph, MA) split the goaltending chores for the Rams, finishing with 29 saves combined.
