We opened the season on Friday the 18th with a solid 4-1 win at Trinity - a tie game late in the second period when we ahead at 18:47 on a Shawn Power goal - in the third we made it 3-1 followed by an open net goal at 19:58 for the 4-1 final - shots were even at 31 - Barchard in goal played well along with all the defensemen - other goal scorers were Plimmer, Pantazopoulos and Gallegos while assists went to Edwards, Sider, Carson, Sokolski, White, Schartz and Voight On Saturday afternoon we went to Wesleyan for another league game - after a scoreless first period we really got hot midway through the second and scored three goals in the last 7 minutes, the last a shorhanded goal Dylan Plimmer from Andy White at 19:59 - the third period was our weakest and we allowed the Cardinals to get back in the game with a PP goal at 7:33 then a second goal at 19:15 to make it 3-2 but we held on for the win ---- another very good road win for us --- others scorers were Gallegos and Schartz while Voight, Carson, Fruchter and White assisted on goals ---- defensively Barker, Carson, Edwards, Power, Metcalf and Fruchter as a group put in two solid games Tuesday we played at Curry a strong NE division team - it was a tough game and ended 4-4 in regulation only to see us lose at 3:23 of OT - we did come from a 3-1 deficit to tie it up at 4-4 with 24 seconds left in regulation but the hockey gods were not with us Off to Vermont for the Castleton tournament against Suny Morrisville (it might as well be Morrisville Canada) - we lost 4-2 but dug a hole for ourselves with 2 PP goals and a third even up goal to fall behind 3-0 going into the third period - Kyle Gallegos got us back in the game with 2 third period goals but an empty netter at 19:49 led to the 4-2 loss ------- the next day we played Becker (coached by old friend Steve Hoar) in the consolation and came away with a 3-0 win - Story scored twice, one being an empty net goal to seal the win Back to NESCAC with home games against Williams and Middlebury clearly the toughest travel pair - in the Williams game on Friday night we were badly outplayed in the first period and were lucky to come out it down by one - in the second period there was no scoring, play was fairly, but we came unglued near the end of the period needing to kill of a full 5 on 3 then part of another 5 on 3 going into the third period ------ it got a little ugly when Williams scored a 5 on 3 goal at 1:02, got a shorthanded goal at 6:49 and capped it off with a goal at 11:42 - we made it 4-1 late in the game Voigt from Armstrong ---- we were only outshot by 2 and played very tough the entire game This was followed up with Middlebury on Saturday - though we lost 3-2 we played very well and it was a very game to watch - Middlebury was all over us in the first period, shots 19-8, but Barchard and our defense held up - no score going into second - Middlebury made it 1-0 at 4:07, we tied it up at 9:32, Sider from Carson - Middlebury came back on the PP at 12:39 and we tied it up again 13:11 Armstrong from Power and Carson - into the third we go all tied up until Middlebury potted the winner at 5;21 - from here to the end it was up and down and came to a close with a grate attempt by us to tie it up with less than 5 seconds on the clock So we are 2-2 in the league, played some very encouraging hockey while using all eight freshman players ---- Fadden and Gallegos have been injured and we hope to get them back in January Up to Maine Friday against Bowdoin and Colby on Saturday, stay tuned, Ben
