Friday night against St. Anslems - We start with a bang scoring at 0:30 of the first, Hertzog from Gimbel, and grab a 2-0 lead on the PP at 14:06 Gimbel from Mellgren and O'Connell - the second period continues up and down but St A's closes to one at 13:28 and that how the period ends - in the third SA goes ahead on the PP at 1:43 but we come right back on our PP at 2:09 Gimbel from Davis to go ahead 3-2 - at 7:57 SA ties it up and that is how regulation ends and so does OT - both coaches stated that this was a tie across the boards - shots about even, penalties even etc
Saturday it is NE College one of the real powers in the league - we grab the lead at 13:17 of the first Korchin from Walker and Cooper only to have NEC tie it up 15 seconds later - that is how the period ended and that was to be the score right thru the second period - NEC broke it open with 2 quick goals at 2:01 and 3:25 of the third for a 3-1 lead and the eventual victory by the same score
All in all a weekend of good hockey against very good opponents
Today we faced off against Conn College, our traveling partner and a team doing very well this year (a 2-2 tie with Middlebury for openers) --- first period was played in 22 minutes by my clock, no penalties, few faceoffs and one nifty goal by us at 15:55 Hertzog from O"Connell and Gimbel - in the second things remained very even with CC tying it up at 12:21, now it starts to get dicey - we give up a PP goal at 15:07, we go ahead again at 17:33 on the PP Wilson unassisted off a turnover in the CC zone - we are hit with a 5 minute major late in the period a CC takes the lead at 18:56, we kill off the penalty for the rest of the period to go into the locker room down 3-2 ------ in the third period we still have 2:53 more to kill on the major, we do that, get control of the puck with Gimbel coming on the ice and he scores on a breakaway (from Davis and Walker) to tie the game up after being on our heels for 5 minutes - CC gets two minor penalties and they kill it off down to the last second when we score again, Davis from Cooper and Walker - it goes as a even up goal and we are now up 4-3 - the fun starts again as CC gets their major followed by a delay of game to give us another 5 on 3 and we quickly capitalize, Cooper from Walker and Mitchell to give us a 5-3 lead ------ it is not over yet - they kill off the rest of the major, as expected we get the next penalty and another, they pull their goalie, it is 6 on 3 for awhile and 6 on 4 for the last 1:20 but we hang on for a huge win against a much improved CC teams ------ Kalec stood out in goal, the defense was moving the puck better than I have seen, all of the freshman played well down the stretch and the senior leadership was evident
