Season opened at home against Williams on Fri the 16th - Tufts scored first this season at 15:50 of the 1st period Joe Milo from Greg O'Connell and freshman Mike Vitale - early in the second at 1:37 Matt Tosto, back from a year abroad, made it 2-0, assists to Vitale and Evan Crosby - Williams cut it to 2-1 at 16:06 and tied it up at 7:44 in the third period - in what hopefully is a good omen Kurt Hertzog scored the game winner with 32 seconds left to play - a very good win for this team

Middlebury marched into town on Saturday with their usual boatload of very strong players - they went up 2-0 in the first period but we came back at 14:48 of the second freshman Lindsay Walker from Vitale and Joe Cappellano - that how it went going into the third we were hanging in there but penalties caught up with us and 2 power play goals against us midway through the period sealed our fate the final was 5-1 - frankly a promising weekend all things considered

Off to Vermont for the first tournament of the season - We started off against Neumann, a team rated third in the country in pre season polls - five jumbos saw their first action of the year - Neumann scored twice late in the period to take a 2-0 lead into the second period - another Neumann score made it 3-0 before we got a pp goal from Milo with assists to Dave Antonelli and Hertzog making it 3-1 after two - a Tufts pp goal, freshman Andy Davis from Cappellano and Hertzog and three more Neumann goals made for the 6 -3 loss - Hertzog was awarded the 3rd star for the game

On Sunday we faced SUNY Morrisville in the consolation - the game started off as one of those games where you outshoot them by a big margin and come up empty, a coach's nightmare - no goals in the first period in spite of a 14-2 shot advantage and we went down by a score of 3-1 in the second swapping even up goals and giving up two pp goals our goal was Milo from Matt Ryder and James Kalec (yes the goalie) - we got a big lift late in the period Hertzog from Doug Wilson to enter the third period down by one ----- we quickly tied it up at 2:00 Cory Korchin from Vitale and Walker and went ahead at 11:31 Ryder from Walker and Korchin - Morrisville tied it up at 14:18 but 19 seconds later we went ahead for good Wilson from Crosby - another big goal and good win for the jumbos - Wilson was the game 1st star and Kalec was the third star - Wilson also made the all tourney team

2-2 so far with big games at NE College and St. Anslems this weekend, both teams up in the top 12 rankings - we have many underclassmen playing, freshman and sophomores have had 20 of the 33 points so far, did much better penalty wise this past weekend and showed some late game scoring, all good signs
