Opened the season against Trinity Friday night with 7 freshman in the starting lineup - got off to a great start with frosh Conor Helfrich scoring a shorthanded goal at 2:27 assisted by junior Cody Armstrong - Trinity came back to tie it up at 8:30 and that the way the period ended - in the second we came out flat and Trinity quickly went up 3-1 in the first two minutes - coach called a time out, we settled down, and play very even - at11:28 we scored the first of three quick unanswered goals in less than three minutes to go ahead 4-3 - goals were scored by frosh Stewart Bell, senior Jared Barker (unassisted) and soph Tyler Voight with assists to soph Blake Edwards, soph Shawn Power, soph Andy White and sr Dylan Plimmer ----- play remained up and down, very physical for the rest of the period and into the third - late in the period at 17:23 Trinity tied it up but the excitement escalated when we took a major penalty with one minute left in the period while Trinity picked up a minor ----- into OT we go and soon had a 3 minute SH situation facing us - we survived that and actually never gave Trinity a decent shot ------- 4-4 was the final - good game, got pretty chippy and the refs did not perform too well in the latter stages of the game, but the tie pretty much summed up the competitiveness of the game Wesleyan on Saturday was another nail biter, be prepared for many of these similar to last year - once again we went on top early with White scoring at 1:27 assisted by frosh Keith Campbell - similar to the Fri game play was fast and furious for the rest of the period but no scoring -- it did not take long for Wes to tie it up at 1:19, two games in a row we get off to a bad second period start but it did not last long - jr Kyle Gallegos scored on the PP at 3:27 from Voigt and we went up 3-1 later in the period Gallegos from frosh Brian Ouellette and Plimmer - it remained that way until well into the third period when we took an ill advised boarding penalty and Wesleyan scored a few seconds into that SH situation - it was pretty hectic the rest of the way but we held on and Gallegos iced it with about 15 seconds left to play - another physical game --- Gallegos is obviously a player the other guys are whacking around and we have to meet that challenge so to speak We find ourselves in a four way second place tie with Trinity, Bowdoin and Middlebury - this week a strong Curry team visits on Tuesday at 7:35 ---- our goalie Brian Phillips played well in both games and the team in general played quite well, should be another interesting season, Ben
