A tough schedule for the Jumbos with #7 Bowdoin Fri nite and #11 Colby Sat afternoon

Bowdoin - the less I dwell on this game the better - we made a game of it very early after Bow scored in the first 12 sec - Cleary tied it at 4:59 from Schatz and McCarthy but Bow scored two more to go ahead 3-1 at the end of one and another at 1:11 of the second - we made it closer at the 5 min mark Byrne from Hayes to make it 4-2 but from that point on it was all downhill - the final was 12-2, a bad loss for us so lets not describe it further

Colby - another very good club - we again get off slowly with colby taking it right to us resulting in a 1-0 Col lead 3 minutes into the game - we are holding them off trying to give as much help to Matt Ninneman, a freshman goalie making his first start in place of the injured Ben Crapser -
we get a great play from Sean Sullivan to tie it up ,both assists to Def Van Pelt and Hayes - we are outshot but escape with it 1-1 after one
2ND Period - we come out better and go ahead at 5:09, Ken Cleary from Gino Rotondi - we get outplayed right after that and Colby rattles in one at 6:03 and one at 8:09 to take a 3-2 lead - from that point on we play a little better, shots are 6-12, and the period ends still 3-2
3RD Period - we start playing better play and, the shots are even, and it appears to be anyones game all the way down to the last minute - we pull the goalie - coach Murphy draws up a play and as happens once every year or so the players do just what you drew and Mat McCarthy scores from Mike Carceo and Sullivan, right off the faceoff and it is a tie -- we take into overtime and the we outplay them that is how it ends 3-3 -- shots 9-9 in #3 and 1-0 in ot

All in all a great comeback, against a very good team, after a disastrous Fri nite affair - the game puck went to Ninneman, with other kudos to the defense and actually the entire team - the coaches also must be doing something right getting the team prepared for this game under very tough circumstances - a team with less character might have packed this one away -- very satisfying with nice crowds at both games - nice to see some former players around Nemeskal, Caraviello, Molloy, Mahoney, MacKey (I played D with him in'54) and I may have missed a couple more

Next Salem ST 7:35 Fri and So. Maine 2:00 on Sat *note time Ben
